Varta 70Ah – is this the right battery for my Lexus?
So my battery finally gave up the ghost yesterday morning, right when I was about to head to work, typical timing. I managed to get a jump start from a neighbor and made it to the office, but I knew I couldn't put it off any longer and needed to sort out a replacement today. I drive a 2016 Lexus ES350, it's been a reliable car overall but I've noticed the battery doesn't seem to last as long as I'd expect, maybe it's the heat or maybe I'm just not buying the right one. I've been doing some research and the Varta name keeps coming up, especially their Silver Dynamic range which is supposed to be good for cars with start-stop systems, which mine does have. From what I understand, the 70Ah capacity is a pretty common size for mid-sized sedans and SUVs, and it should provide enough power for all the electronics without being overkill. The thing that worries me is that I've heard some stories about people buying the wrong battery for their car and ending up with issues like the start-stop not working or the battery draining faster than it should. I remember reading somewhere about how the battery needs to be properly matched to the vehicle's electrical system, and if it's not, you can have all sorts of problems. I'm particularly concerned about the cold cranking amps because I've heard that if the CCA is too low, the car might struggle to start on those really hot mornings when the engine's been sitting in the sun. Has anyone here installed a 70Ah Varta in their Lexus, or any similar Japanese sedan with start-stop, and can share their experience? I'm also curious about whether the battery needs to be coded to the car's computer, because I've read that with some vehicles you need to tell the ECU that a new battery has been installed so it can adjust the charging algorithm properly. If that's the case, I'll need to make sure the place I buy it from can do that, or at least let me know if I need to take it to a specialist.
